The Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Trust was formed in 1959 on the eve of the Birth Centenary Celebration of the Late Lala Lajpatrai to work for the objectives, which were so dear and near to Lalaji’s heart. Though Lalaji was interested in almost all the fields of activities contributing to the enrichment of national and social life, the cause of education was always uppermost in his mind. It was therefore desired by our late Prime Minister Shri La I Bahadur Shastri that the most fitting may to commemorate the memory of the great patriot was to start an institution of higher education. With the formation of the Lala Lajpatrai Institute the next logical step was the establishment of educational complex for varied popular courses. About Lala Lajpatrai College of Law

The college, which is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, is situated at Haji Ali on the road named after Lala Lajpatrai. The College is at a distance of about 12 to 15 minutes’ walk from Mahalaxmi Railway Station and is well connected to all parts of the city by a number of bus routes. Apart from its own spacious building for curricular activities, the college has a well-equipped library, a gymkhana, a spacious auditorium and common room for both boys and girls, and an enviable health center with counseling facilities and a canteen. The college organizes a number of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for all-round development of its students. Initially, a commerce college was established and thereafter a Management Institute to provide management education. In the true spirit of our philanthropist trustees in 2005, we have conceived a new college known as Lala Lajpatrai College of Law to provide legal education to aspiring students of the city.

Eligibility For Admission

An applicant who has graduated in any discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a state legislature or an equivalent national institution recognized as a Deemed to be University or Foreign University recognized as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, may apply fora three years degree program in law leading to conferment of LL.B. degree on successful completion of the regular program conducted by University of Mumbai whose degree in law is recognized by the Bar Council of India for the purpose of enrolment. Minimum Marks In Qualifying Examination To Apply For Admission

Bar Council of India, May from time to time, stipulate the minimum percentage of marks for admission. Not below 45% of the total marks in case of general category applicants and 40% of the total marks in case of SC and ST applicants, to be obtained for the qualifying examination, degree course in any discipline for three years LL.B. course, tor the purpose of applying for and getting admitted into a Law degree Program a any recognized University in either of the streams according to merit. LLB Course

The College offers Three Year LL.B. degree course under the University of Mumbai and recognised by Bar Council of India.

Intake Capacity: The College admits 80 students at the first year LL.B. The seats are provided to the candidates as per the Rules of Maharashtra Government and the University of Mumbai.

Admission:

The admission is given on the basis of merit and personal interview.

Qualification for Admission:

For each year every student shall fill in a fresh admission form and pay the necessary fees on or before the date fixed.
A candidate being eligible for admission to the First Semester of Three years LL.B. must have passed/completed Degree Examination of a recognised University with minimum 45% of marks. However, the above percentage of Marks shall be relaxed by 5% for the candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
A student from another University seeking admission to any of the classes at the College will be final on production of a certificate of eligibility from the University of Mumbai. On the production of provisional eligibility certificate a provisional admission may be granted to such students.
Admission to the student from outside university of Mumbai is subject to the rules of eligibility and confirmation of the verification of documents from previous university.
No student shall be allowed to simultaneously register for law degree program with any other graduate, Post graduate or Certificate course run by the same or other University or an Institute for academic or professional learning excepting in the integrated degree program of the same institution. However any short period part time certificate courses on language, computer application of an institute or any course run by a centre for distance learning of a university, or any add-on part-time course/s in their in or related to law provided the timings for the law course for this university are accepted.
