The Lala Lajpatrai Memorial Trust was formed in 1959 on the eve of the Birth Centenary Celebration of the Late Lala Lajpatrai to work for the objectives, which were so dear and near to Lalaji’s heart. Though Lalaji was interested in almost all the fields of activities contributing to the enrichment of national and social life, the cause of education was always uppermost in his mind. It was therefore desired by our late Prime Minister Shri La I Bahadur Shastri that the most fitting may to commemorate the memory of the great patriot was to start an institution of higher education. With the formation of the Lala Lajpatrai Institute the next logical step was the establishment of educational complex for varied popular courses.

Application Process for LLB at Lala Lajpatrai College of Law

The application process for LLB at Lala Lajpatrai College of Law (LLIM), Mumbai appears to be different from the one for BA LLB at Thakur Ramnarayan College of Law (TRCL). Here’s a breakdown of what I found:

Admission for LLB at LLIM, Mumbai:

  • LLIM offers a 3-year LLB program affiliated with the University of Mumbai.
  • Admission is based on your score in the MH-CET (Law) entrance exam conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra. There’s no separate entrance exam by LLIM itself.

Here’s what the process might involve (information not explicitly mentioned on the college website):

  • Register and take the MH-CET (Law) exam. (Details and registration on the DTE Maharashtra website: https://www.dtemaharashtra.gov.in/)
  • Await the MH-CET (Law) results.
  • Centralized Counselling: Following the merit list, centralized counselling will be conducted by the authorities. This process typically involves online registration and choice filling of colleges.
  • During counselling, based on your MH-CET (Law) rank and seat availability, you can choose LLIM (and other colleges) according to your preference.
  • Admission at LLIM: If you’re allotted a seat at LLIM during counselling, you’ll likely receive instructions for completing the admission process at the college. This might involve document verification, fee payment, and registration formalities.

Important Points:

  • There’s no mention of a minimum cut-off score for MH-CET (Law) on the LLIM website. It’s generally advisable to score around 50 (out of 150) for the general category to be competitive for admission to good law colleges through MH-CET (Law).
  • While the information above seems likely, the official LLIM website (https://llim.edu/) is not very detailed on the LLB admission process. Here are some suggestions:
  1. Contact the LLIM admissions office directly for confirmation and any missing information.
  2. Regularly check the LLIM website and DTE Maharashtra website for updates on application dates, counselling, and any changes in the admission process.

Fee Structure:

The fee structure of the LL.B. course is as prescribed by the University of Mumbai from time to time.

Ragging & Sexual Harassment:

Please note according to Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act 1999 that any act of ragging is prohibited and therefore it is a punishable offence. The College may suspend or dismiss the student from the College for such act. Even for cases regarding Sexual Harassment, College will take appropriate action as per rules. The college provides and expect a ragging free environment.

Here are some things to consider when evaluating LLIM:

Pros:

  • Affiliation with the University of Mumbai, a reputed university.
  • Focus on core legal principles through a 3-year LLB program.
  • Potentially lower fees compared to other law colleges due to not being a very established institution.

Cons:

  • Limited information available online about the college’s academics, faculty, infrastructure, or student life.
  • Unclear picture of the placement record or alumni network.
